Anoma – To New Beginnings

Anoma – To New Beginnings

Hi! I’m Ruchika Grover, Founder and Creative Director of Anoma – a natural surfaces, sculptures, and installations brand. Welcome to my blog – a space where I share my experiences and reveal the stories behind the products I create.

First off, I love stone. I believe that man’s relationship with this most fundamental of building materials transcends the bounds of time. My work at Anoma, therefore, explores and celebrates the potential of natural stone through a process that combines digital manufacturing with traditional hand craftsmanship. This places us at the forefront of the global design and manufacturing industry in natural stone, as we constantly evolve our process through research, development, and investment in the latest technologies.

My journey to get to this stage has been a long and special one. I’ve always loved design, and I’m a self-taught artist. I founded Anoma’s parent brand Odyssey in 2007, creating small installations and custom fabrications across a diverse range of typologies. During the subsequent years, we expanded the brand’s repertoire beyond hand-crafted products, launching a series of digitally-manufactured dimensional stone surface collections – the Crosta (2012), the Kinetic (2013), the Breathing Surfaces (2014), and the Ishi Kiri Collection (2015). This work brought us international acclaim and recognition: the Elle Deco International Design Award (2015), and a spot on the shortlist of the Surface Design Awards, London (2016).

Anoma, essentially, emerges as a more refined extension of Odyssey. The parent brand’s work helped me acquire great knowledge and expertise: defined by customization, it gave me free rein to experiment with a wide range of colorful stones, and manufacturing and carving techniques. Anoma, on the other hand, offers us the opportunity to rethink and streamline our product offering. Launched in 2017, it is directed towards a contemporary global market with the vision to celebrate the tactile nature of Indian craft. It introduces minimal market-friendly products in three colors – Graphite Grey Granite, Crèma Limestone, and Pristine White Marble – across three major categories: SurfacesSculptures, and Installations. Drawing inspiration from organic forms and textures and using a combination of robotics and hand-craftsmanship, Anoma delivers minimal artisanal results that are inspiring and timeless.

We have a long journey still ahead of us and we hope you join and inspire us on this adventure as we celebrate stone in all its inherent beauty!
