The Grid, New Delhi
The Grid is a special-order installation in New Delhi, India, that creates a latticed stone screen with a unique composition of squares. Carved out of shot-blasted Jurassic Gold Limestone, it is an assemblage of several distinct modules. Standing on a metal framework, these modules unite together to span the entire height of a four-storey residential building.
Puritsu, Bhopal
As a child, one of my favourite activities to indulge in was origami – the traditional Japanese art of paper-folding. In 2014, when I was itching for ideas for a new collection of surfaces, I sought inspiration in this art. This resulted in the EDIDA-winning Ishi Kiri collection that exploits the pleats and creases (as in paper) in multi-dimensional forms to create dramatic stone surfaces.
Continuum, Bhopal
Being amidst nature is where I am my most authentic self; from where I have always drawn strength and inspiration. I must have been about twelvewhen I was first introduced to the paradoxical calm and chaos of the ocean. Scuba diving since then, I was mesmerized by the Elysian forms in and around the ocean. The sea-bed, the water currents, and the interplay between the two created these sinuous, fluid, and ever-changing forms.
Kona, New Delhi
These past few months I’ve enjoyed collaborating with clients, architects, and designers on projects; there’s so much to learn from each other’s ideas and the design process is immensely satisfying. Of course, the final result holds much more meaning. Most of the patterns I create, offer limitless possibilities and can be interpreted in diverse ways.
The Snail and the Caterpillar
I often turn to nature for inspiration. It is in my surroundings that I find sinuous patterns that are functionally efficient and responsive to their context. From the leaves on a tree to shells lying ashore, my designs freely draw from nature and are refined interpretations of such settings.
The year that was
It was the beginning of 2018 when Anoma debuted on the global stage, launching two nature-inspired sculptures, The Anemone and The Bodhi, at the Scope International Contemporary Art Show at Miami Beach, USA. And how time has flown! This past year brought us the opportunity to collaborate with multiple artists and dealers, enabling us to expand the reach of our products across the United States.
Space between no longer and not yet
Having spent the last year and a half living between two worlds – the studio in India where we constantly experiment with new techinques and ideas for installations/ sculptures and the other half travelling across the United states and selling these ideas to architects, designers and potential partners.
The Hexagon
The Hexagon is an installation designed through the conception of multiple polygons – molded, altered and distorted to fabricate the skin of the façade. This special-order installation for a private residence in New Delhi reinterprets the hexagon to create dynamic three-dimensional surfaces.
Kona – The Custom Installations
The Kona explores the conception of a litany of patterns, visualized in geometric motifs. The term ‘Kona’ draws from the Sanskrit word for ‘angle.’ Interesting patterns created from intersecting straight lines fabricate an array of forms, such as triangles, parallelograms, trapeziums and pyramids – creating a dynamic play of depth, texture, and dimensionality, highlighting light and shadow.
Kona – The Custom Surface
The Kona, part of Anoma’s Breathing Surfaces, celebrates geometricity. Derived from the Sanskrit word for ‘angle,’ its patterns are an interesting composition of intersecting straight lines. The resultant forms – triangles, parallelograms, trapeziums, and pyramids – create a dynamic play of depth, texture, and dimensionality, highlighting light and shadow.
